Corbyloon / Andy Hughes

Corbyloon and Andy Hughes - All too often people assume the authority of Christianity in order to judge me, and then find me hypocritical.
I am not perfect I agree.
Would you be vocal,or take action if your family were in danger? Of course you would.
Well I feel the same way about MY family, MY community, and MY nation.
I have not got to the stage yet where I can simply lay flowers, light candles, and join in the, "community coming together," which appears to be the standard response to every Islamist atrocity.
Churchill was a Christian, and he just could not roll over and submit to Nazi aggression.
Maybe his critics might have told him to love his international neighbour, Hitler, and turn the other cheek.
Maybe he should have told the Poles to do the same, because it might be deemed unchristian to draw the sword against the invader.
This does not explain me in any way, but I hope it gives you a bit of an insight into my often categorised twisted hypocracy.
Thank you anyway for your interest.
Is this O.K?

Godwins Law - well that's us told then !
were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.
read it again
it is an if ... then clause
if clause ( er protasis) is subjunctive
then clause (apodosis) conditional
so this makes it a closed conditional
that is - If X then Y but it wont ....
if Christianity didnt have machine guns(*) then it might fall ( but it wont because it does) - so the prophesy is er the other way round. Think Trump and negatives
(*) I did wonder about Ch-Ch and Islam since he had been present at the massacre of Omdurman ( 5000 dead on one side and 6 dead on the other - can you tell which one is which?)
and I am grateful to Mr Heyer - classics master - and niece to Georgette heyer who taught me sequence of tenses in conditional clauses in 1966.
( much more difficult in NY Greek where it is easier to just learn the examples)

// Firstly; how is Christianity sheltered in science? //
this is Churchill on the Needham question - why did the only scientific renaissances of Rome, Buddhism, Islam and C12 only succeed in eighteenth century Europe ?
( the christianity in science bit - ignoring previous science periods where we burnt the scientists like Roger Bacon)
a generalisation of another question
why did Islamic science go phut in the twelfth century?
even at the time Ch was writing there was a feeling that a technologically more advanced nation ( the Brits ) had over powered a more civilised nation ( India and all of it) 1757-1857.
[ [What do you think of British Civilsiation? I think it would be a good idea if they were - Gandhi etc]
[what do you think of the French Revolution ? it is too early to tell - Chou En Lai]
sorry getting a bit cerebral here.....
