Why do religionists (of all flavours) hate this way of thinking so much?
What is wrong with trying to enjoy this one and only life (that we can be certain of) so much?
We all go through our own personal griefs in life, our own personal problems and struggles, but what is so WRONG about enjoying our existence once in a while?
For me its not about 'eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die'. Its more about eat, drink and be merry for today Im alive. And Im currently enjoying been alive...

I don't know any 'religionists' who think that way. Have people actually said this to you directly? I personally don't think there is anything wrong about enjoying our existence - and nobody's ever tried to persuade me otherwise.
Some bloke years ago went to a wedding and turned water into wine so that people could enjoy a drink.

Im actually quoting the Bible, where this way of thinking is derided and yes its been quoted at me. (by funementalist types)
My mum is Born Again...and she's loving life. Could have something to do with the inheritance though ;-)

I know naomi. I'm dammed for daring to have a few moment of happiness ;-)
No-one I know would quote lines like that (from the Bible) to me - you maybe know some funny folk! I do have fundamentalist friends, by the way.

neveracrossword, one of my closest friends is a retired pastor. Hes never come out with that cr ap to me either. Lots of others have though. (there one on here that does as well, but let him be)
Nailit, maybe you get into more religion-based discussions (here and in the real world) than me and many other atheists?

In real life I do try to avoid religious discussions (occasional JW at the door but they soon depart when *I* start quoting the bible at them)
Discussions online are slightly different. If someone (eg Theland) makes statements that just arnt true then I will challenge them....and await an answer that just wont come!

You are sounding better Nailit, glad to see that.!
I think this should be my current motto :)
DT...my mother doesn't drink, my dad is dead, I'm not religious :-)
