Ouija Boards - Doorway To The Darkside Or Just An Old Board Game?

Have you ever tried a Ouija Board - I never have. Some years ago some friends were using one at a party but I refused to get involved. I am not religious but don't want to take any risks with those things.

Some swear that their lives have been ruined by Ouija boards, some scientists say that they work through the ideomotor effect where we move things subconsciously, other say they are a harmless board. I have no idea but would never do one after some of the stories I have heard.

Cant speak for the experiences of others but my own experiences have been pretty dismal. (And Ive done loads of Ouija board sessions).
I was once a member of a paranormal research group. We experimented with Ouija boards and I suggested (skeptic that I am) that we should do one with the participants blindfolded, the board turned around, and a scribe (me) would write down what was spelt out in answer to questions asked.
As expected, it was gibberish!

HOWEVER...I suspect that Ouija boards may be a way to connect to our subconscious. I have nothing to back this up, just a hunch.

Why?

If they show that some supernatural agent is at work shouldn't that be investigated?

They sell them in ToysRus in the States (or at least they used to) as they are considered a harmless party game/toy for kids. I guess you can read as much or a little into them as you like.

I think nailit might be correct, a doorway or channel to the subconscious mind. Though the power of an unchallenged subconscious could cause havoc with mental stability. Plus who knows what consequences may ensue?

I heard a story about a friend of a friend who used a Ouija board and then started communicating with this spirit of a dead pirate. The spirit eventually took over his whole life and would temporarily take over his body and just start screaming at his parents with foul abuse. It was eventually removed through a priest apparently.
