RE Smowball’s thread - I find it terribly arrogant of you to prayer on behalf of everyone, talk about ramming religion down people’s throats. It’s people like you that give religious people a bad name.

I second that.
Fair enough.
Not shoving anything.
You send hopes and best wishes so do I but mine is called prayer.
Have I harmed anybody?
Apologies to all offended.,
Theland, 'Let's all pray together' was possibly ill-judged. 'All'? I'm sure you had the best of intentions, but you cannot, shouldn't, speak for everyone on AB.
I don’t for a second believe TH, was meaning any harm, but noting for us all in the future .
Never realised for a second so much offence would be caused by what others would call, "thinking of you," and "hoping for you."
Again, many apologies for any offence caused.
Theland, there was, is, nothing wrong with the remarks you've just quoted. 'Let's all pray together' is to many of us an unwanted directive! That's the part I feel was inappropriate and unnecessary.

Five responses (two of them your own) does not constitute ‘so much offence’. I couldn’t care less if you pray for someone or not (each to their own) just don’t include me in it.
Nobody is included, but invited.
If that causes offence, I am only repeating my apologies to those with the fragility to take offence, when my motives were noble.
Now we're fragile...lol
Theland, I have no 'fragility' whatsoever - just an aversion to your instruction, sorry 'invitation'.
Question Author
You knew exactly what you were doing, you could have just said ‘I’ll say a prayer for him’ but you couldn’t leave it at that. We know you believe, it’s your staggering arrogance that you can pray on behalf of everyone. Even if I did believe, I wouldn’t want you to pray on my behalf. And I am far from fragile.
I used 'we' on a News thread earlier (the sad one about a whale) only after I'd pressed submit did I wonder had I done the right thing.

Prayer is very personal and best kept individual.
I am with Theland. No offence was meant, merely an expression of compassion. I am shocked and appalled by the utter callousness of this thread and some of its replies.
Tricky one. If I'm speaking face to face with a person in trouble I usually say 'Is it OK if I pray for... your dad, mum etc.' and always get the affirmative. On line it is difficult.

No offence was offered by Theland, indeed he was trying to be of help. Does it really matter if someone is 'praying for you' rather than just 'thinking of you'?

Question Author
Theland can show his compassion and so he should. I don’t care to be lumped in with his prayer. If you’re happy for someone else to represent you without your consent, crack on.
Once again, I sincerely apologise for any offence.
My intention was to offer comfort, and instead I have caused great hurt to some, not my intention, so please forgive me.
^^Jackdaw, I am also shocked by some reactions to something so well-meant.
Theland....don't go so OTT. I don't think anyone is feeling 'great hurt'
Jourdain2, I don't think you would ever say 'Let's all pray...' It's the 'all' that irritated me.
As an aside, if I ever appear unwell or troubled, please pray for me and send positive thoughts if you wish. I’ll take anything being offered, thanks , ;*)
