That you could never have done for yourself anyway?
Theres always lots of debates on AB (or at least r&s) about the existence of God, creation v evolution, the historicity of the Bible etc.
But very simply, what has this 'Being' ever done for YOU?

When I was a teenage fundementalist' Christian I was very taken with stories about how God had helped someone find their lost car keys after a prayer or how someones Aunt Aggie had recovered from an operation. (After a prayer of course).
The Bible tells us that if we pray in faith, that mountains can be moved. Jesus (allegedly) says that his followers will do even greater things than he.
If this is the case, then why arn't christians active in hospital prayer in childrens cancer wards?
Why dont amputees ever grow a limb back after prayer?, Why has Maddie never been found despite the prayers of thousands of christians? Why are there so many people still ill (even terminal) after recieving prayer?

What has God ever done for you, that you didnt do for yourself?

Theland //Second He brings me hope.//

You have hope because of your belief. God does not need to exist for this and if your hope is in vain you will never know.
MIBs//Any comfort one hopes to derive from another's suffering is inherently a delusion.

What a morbid thing it would be to drive comfort from the suffering of another. Unfortunately it goes on all the time in primitive cultures where practices such as raping children are expected to cure AIDs and the like.

Theland//Do you have evidence for that MIBs?//

Since there is no evident mechanism for any sane person to derive comfort from the suffering of another, it would be a more pertinent question for Theland to provide some evidence of how it could be so.
It is not in vain.
Absolutely nothing other than provide a few fairy tales and a bit of entertainment on a Sunday along with tea and biscuits.
Really MartinMillar?
How profound.
When I was a little girl, I was on holiday at Butlins with the family and I was allowed to go along on my own to meet my Grandma at the hall where wrestling was taking place. I got a bit lost and started panicking, so as an innocent child, I asked God to help me as I was lost, whereupon I stopped panicking, turned a corner and there was the hall. All I can say is that I remember it vividly and the relief as I felt the panic and doubt leave me, was palpable. Was it God ? As a child I thought it was.

Don't you think we're privileged to be in the company of such smart people on this thread, - they have so much to teach us.
hereIam; A nice story which has stuck with you all this time.
If Jesus Christ is not risen my hope is in vain.
But the overwhelming evidence for His resurrection convinces me that my hope is well founded on the Rock of salvation.
Khandro - I am forever learning.
MaYbe that should be floundered on the rock of salvation (whatever that is)
Zacs - That is the kind of post that is typical and expected.
A member of the great mob.
Take comfort in what you have.
It may be all you will ever have.
Theland you may not like what I say but I am entitled to voice my opinion on the subject.
Surely if one believes in the Christian god then god 'does' everything.. Sets the freezing point of water, shapes the earth into beautiful landscapes and creates a myriad of wondrous lifeforms to enjoy it, gives kids cancer, the lot.
// If this is the case, then why arn't christians active in hospital prayer in childrens cancer wards?// - the christians have a prayer book where the names of other children to pray for are recorded

well this has been looked at
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2802370/

there is also a new england journal article on prayer in hospitals - any effect can be ascribed to a placebo effect

and for me - -
we knew there was something seriously wrong with PP because your patients parents have started praying for you - 1999
survived as a result of their prayers and that nice Mr Scott who took half my guts out
He made me an atheist......so trust in his plan.
Martin Millar - I would never dream of infringing your right to free speech.
Archbaldy - God does not give kids cancer, or anybody else for that matter.
There are many evils in the world cancer in kids being just one of them.
Chilldoubt - No that was your choice.
Theland, what overwhelming evidence of the resurrection? I really would like to see that.

As much as you’d like him to be God’s not off the hook for the evils of the world. See Isaiah 45.7.
