'Something is stirring in the souls of millions presently under lockdown. The number of people searching for the word ‘prayer’ on Google ‘skyrocketed’ last month, doubling with every 80,000 new registered cases of coronavirus, according to a University of Copenhagen study. A Pew poll found that 55 per cent of Americans have prayed for an end to the pandemic. And no, it’s not only the Bible Belt: researchers reported that 15 per cent of those who ‘seldom or never pray’ and 24 per cent of those who do not belong to any religion have prayed about the virus.'

Have you prayed - even in the simplest of terms - for someone's health?

And if your nephew starts to walk, nailit (and I hope he does!) then the prayers were answered! It's a miracle. But if he doesn't, then it was god's will, however difficult it might be for us mere mortals to understand that a deity who could make it happen in an instant but doesn't want to...
There is absolutely no point in shaking your fist at the clouds.
Allegedly God answers all prayers, sometimes the answer is No.
Not since a child... the term I have read as "most searched for" in the last month, was nothing to do with religion... :-)
The most faithfully religious family I know, also have the most illnesses and disabilities.... are they not praying hard enough?
//She it all shakes out, Mozz, we all came from Monkees//

That's crazy tork Doudlas!

Prayers help the people who pray... which is fair enough...
Aha! Nailit's pashed and looking for a fight.

Did you spill my point?
Mozz - // //Who are you to say what prayer is, or is not?//

Who are you to question what a believer's definition of prayer is? //

No-one special - could be that's why I am not doing that!

I am not questioning Theland's right to offer his own definition of prayer if he wishes, but I am questioning his right to define what it is for everyone, as he does in the post I queried.

naomi; //Flowers are some form of offering and prayer to the dead? Where on earth do you get it from? I lay flowers as a gesture of remembrance - that's all.//

"A gesture of remembrance" what do you mean? - a 'gesture' to whom?
surely not to us (we probably don't know the person) & it can't be to yourself, because you are the agent that remembered so must be placing flowers for the deceased, which is an offering - a prayer.
Khandro, you aren't speaking for everyone. I might give flowers to grieving relatives, but would never put them on a grave. There is no point.

There you go, just like your fellow fervent Christian - thinking up your own interpretation of something, then offering it as the definitive truth.

Naomi has explained why she lays flowers, for the same reason most other people do I would imagine, a physical action which provides them with comfort, to decorate a place of sadness and grief with some pretty flowers to brighten it up a little.

Why do you have to complicate it with your own religious interpretation, and then post it like it's the be-all and end-all.

I suspect that in yours and Theland's households, you are both used to giving everyone their opinion when you want it - fine, but don't try it on here, you will get called out for it every time.

Khandro, //placing flowers for the deceased, which is an offering - a prayer.//

What prayer? What do you think I’m praying to or for. Laying flowers is for me an act of remembrance.
