It's difficult to lay down clear and unambiguous guidelines. Each thread/post gets treated on a case-by-case basis, ideally according to the same standards, but it's common even in stricter settings that the same rules applied to the same case by different people leads to different outcomes. This is expected and normal, and I guess you'll just have to get used to it.
Still, as a matter of general advice, try not to be rude, not least to the people who host the site and who keep it relatively clean from spam, and that'll stand you in good stead.
