Prayer has become very popular. There are now prayer hours, prayer days, prayer weeks, prayer months, prayer years.

Yes,Pressures and problems are multiplying in these “last days,” marked by “critical times hard to deal with.” (2 Timothy 3:1) And trials can easily preoccupy our minds. Our incessant prayers, however, will help you to keep your live on a spiritual course despite persistent problems, temptations, and discouragement.

Is taken straight out of your organisations literature.
No original thought whatsoever.
Doesnt that worry/concern you that you have to quote rather than converse?
Goodlife, //No revelation 1 verse 3 said it all. //

And still not an original thought from you. What a hypocrite you are.
well ringlet
τουτο δε γινωσκε οτι εν εσχαταις ημεραις ενστησονται καιροι χαλεποι

and εν εσχαταις ημεραις - - [shall be present in the last days]
you asked

and it is the usual thing - what does the text mean, what did it mean to them ( I agree: at least some thought the new millenium was around the corner) and what does it means for us?

and yes I dont think the text itself tells us when ( in these last times: εν εσχαταις ημεραις] it will be

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart
2 Peter 3 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are

which sounds OK to me - the bible ( Methuselah he lived for 628 y ) isnt a great time keeper

a structure - not my own idea is that there was a feeling directly after the crucifixion ( for those that believe it occurred that is!) that the end of times were near ( as in resurrection )

second thoughts around 60-70 AD - - they arent - physical I mean. The end of times is not a physical imminent event - and the writings of the early authors ( apostolic writers but I think that is too technical for the standard anglican) reflected this.

Council of Jerusalem, AD 50 or thereabouts - is christianity its own religion or a branch of judaism ?
Methuselah lived for 969 years.
969 years eh? Someone must have been sneaking back into the garden for more of them apples.

Stop bothering the god-botherer. If s/he wants to believe his/her prayers will save us, that's fine. Maybe just not consistent with a scientific view of the Universe.
drmorgan, //Stop bothering the god-botherer. If s/he wants to believe his/her prayers will save us, that's fine. //

Certainly not. It's not fine. He/she can believe whatever he/she likes but when it comes to affecting other people's lives with their dangerous tripe, they need to be 'bothered'.
It’s only the atheists who appear to be bothered . Christians appear quite happy to allow abers to post about their beliefs , :-)
The anti-science, anti-reason, anti-mind, anti-human doctrines fostered by religion are not confined to the pulpit. They carry on through the church doors and spill out into the street, infesting and infiltrating the lives of any and everyone they encounter throughout the week, all while looking forward to their next indoctrination meeting.

I know several scientists who are also Christians. I probably ought to ask how they reconcile the contradictions between their belief and their training.
Funny how the JW's used to start backing up the drive when I started to quote chapter and verse back.....
(Both as an evangelical Christian and as an atheist)

Its almost as if they dont want to converse with someone familiar with the Bible itself....
Even offered them in for a coffee numerous times!
Had one occasion where I (as an atheist) asked them about Charles Taze Russells resting place and they were like sh** of a shovel....

Weird!
Very weird!

How True, Matt 5:3
It is true, Goodlife. Perhaps that's because atheists care about people's mental well-being whereas Christians are happy to cause anyone gullible enough to fall for their claptrap needless anxiety.

With you Naomi, time will tell.
Or not ....

To be fair there are some atheists who behave pretty appallingly too. That doesn't excuse the way some faith leaders abuse their position.
