Today, Ash Wednesday, is the first day of Lent. While reminders of mortality are not as popular as they once might have been Lent could still be used to kick start a change in lifestyle .

Good grief! How not to cheer Chatterbakers up. It’s being so cheerful that keeps you going, sandyRoe.

ChatterBAKERS naomi, love it!
Well Sandy that’s you told. God forbid a half decent question is asked in chatterbank.
For what it’s worth I thought it a pertinent question on Ash Wednesday . Hey Ho .
Oops! That’s what typing on a phone does for me, fd. :o)
If it’s such a good question are you going to answer it, anneasquith, or did you really just pop along to have a poke again? ;o)
No. I’ll give it a pass .
Just to have a poke again then!
Anne why pass on what you deem a half decent pertinent question? It's not divulging anything personal, what are you giving up for Lent?
Me, nothing I'm afraid. I wasn't brought up to observe Lent, didn't it used to be more of a Catholic thing?
i once gave up chocolare for lent - never again!
i do however still keep my "giving up ironing" resolution. It's in its 10th year now i think
It's easy bednobs, I've not ironed anything for years!
^ Missed out the word 'either' at the end.
Bednobs, I admire your fortitude. Wish I could be as determined.
I'm giving up backing losers, for lent. Nothing but winners for me for the next 40 days:-))))
Good question Sandy. I've decided I am going to eat less and do more, in an attempt to lose some weight.

It was my New Year's Resolution and I can tell you it was the longest two days of my life. :0)
I'm giving up tea and coffee during Lent
no way! that's harder than choc barry
My atheist BIL takes it seriously and is giving up this year his daily tipple.

Barry1010,
Both tea and coffee? That's going far too far.
sandy, you are right, of course. tbh, I have no particular plans, I was brought up to respect others and lead a Christian life, helping anyone I can. I cannot think of any excessive nature that I might display. In my twilight years I am just grateful still to have a lifestyle ;)
Changes ? No. Dust will be fine, thanks.
