This is exactly why Trump is so popular amongst many Americans (except the Mulsei spitting few of course).  Money across the West is being wasted or funnelled to 'mates' pockets.

I'm a tad confused. The headline in your link quotes £141M, yet the only two figures mentioned below are £550 spent by the multi-party run Denbighshire council and the £800 the Tory run council of West Sussex spent on yoga classes.

I understand that, ttt, and i agree it's outrageous.  I'm just questioning the figure given the only two quotes are so small and, apparently, this money has all been spent in just 2 and a bit years..

Just a few examples quoted - I suppose a lot of councils weach spending a bit adds up to a lot.

If the government won't "stop the boats" by "smashing the gangs" then the incomers should be held in camps until their status is determined & they are either allowed to stay or deported.

The reason is that it is an easy cash cow for those abusers running the council and the government, as it is taking a large risk to refuse to pay, the force of the law is brought to bear on you if you do. Ratepayers are in the same boat as vehicle drivers, they can be just continually squeezed & squeezed, so they are.

The problem is not every person in a local authority pays council tax, only one householder per property so all the rest dont give a monkey's. Plus all those who are exempt that are on benefits. That is why the community charge (later christened the poll tax) was a good idea, everyone paid something.  Of course the great unwashed didn't like the idea of contributing so they rioted.

That wasn't the reason they rioted, it was because the tax took no account of the ability of those living there to pay. In any unit the residents decide among themselves if the one (or more) with an income pays the bill, or if they all contribute, anyway.  Especially important for those so poor they have to share with many to cover bills, only to find their residence would have an even larger bill because they had to do that.

 

The obvious way to fund locally is for budgets to be funded out of general taxation, and based on the needs of the area. At the same time government needs to modify as many tax streams on the public as possible to reflect what income they get from being part of our society.

Doubtless, in part, to support the 500 asylum seekers bussed into into Blackpool, in the small hours, being put up in some of the bigger hotels. 🤬😠
