Michael Gambon and Richard Harris who played the role superbly in the movies are hard acts to follow but as a great fan of Harry Potter I'm very much looking forward to the new television series.

Will you watch?

No, because I'm not 12.

I disagree that Michael Gambon did a good job

he did an okay job, but in comparison toRichard Harris, Well there is no comparison.

Yes  I will watch it  John Lithgow is great. I particularly enjoyed his Churchill

No fraid not.

I always thought it a bit strange to see adults reading a young persons book when it came out and I lived in london.

the same with twilight - just could not get it.

Beware of maturity, douglas.  Some people are so mature they've gone off.

Has he the gravatas, the weight, for such a role?

I say that in the knowledge that he's a fine actor.

I enjoyed the books and films, but a TV series too is a bit much. I don't think I'll watch.

I bow to your superior knowledge and life experience, naomi.

Question Author

I thought he played Churchill well too, bednobs.

A lot of people who haven't read the books say that, DDIL, in fact I said it myself until I finally reluctantly relented to the lengthy bludgeoning I was getting.  And now I've read them all more than once because Harry Potter is more than just a story.  All life is there.  Quite brilliant.

🙄

JKR was adamant that the films were made in the UK by British crews and featured British actors; something for which the British Film Industry should be very grateful.

Although, she has a great deal of oversight on this new series, it will be interesting to see how the differences the americanisation HBO is bound to make impact the story.

I'll watch it.

I'm not a fan myself but I do end up half watching some bits of the films when my grandson comes over so I suspect I'll end up watching the TV series a bit.

that's a shame ddil, IMO books should be about what you like and whatgives you pleasure rather than limiting yourself based on who they are aimed at

I agree bednobs.  Two others written for young people are The Boy in Striped Pyjamas and The Book Thief - both unforgettable.  I suppose seeing adults reading such books is an indication that they're worth reading.
