mr fruit is a very fit 60 year old who has been a labourer since he was 16 years of age, the job he was most recently on has now finished and he is looking for more work, but as soon as they ask his age they say we will get back to you(but surprise surprise they never do) he is still very strong and works as well if not better than a lot of the youngsters, he doesnt want to sign on for unemployment, any ideas which sort of work he could apply for, he doesnt drive so a driving job is out of the question. thanks in advance.

He has been with us for 2 years, we took him on as a part timer, but he soon did full time hours and he is fantastic ! Never has a day off, works hard, sings all day - i wish they were all like him !
we have just had to lay one off - by request due to his wifes health - he was a mere 66 ! We had another who was also 66.
Not light work either - engineering !
They joke that its like a retirement home !
We took on a young man once - he failed to turn up on his first day. He rang a day later and asked for a second chance - didnt turn up again ! He rang again - we told him to forget it !
All employers should give the older generation a chance -
i do hope he gets something soon.
Can you tell us roughly what area you live in ?

Something else - my husband works at a local concert venue, and they have several stewards who work part-time well past retirement age.
There's this lovely lady called Audrey, who, when she first retired, put herself through drama school and now does bit parts in dramas and ads, as well as being a steward.
Hubby likes the older stewards - they are a reassuring presence to staff and clients alike and are just as effective in getting the latter do as they're asked.

Does he enjoy gardening?
You would be surprised at how many people want a bloke who will mow the lawn and potter in the borders!
People usually have the required equipment on the premises so he could bike / bus to them.
Hope it helps.
BTW tell him not to despair - my friend recently came back into the job market through doing temporary work for a secretarial agency and after only a few months has succeeded in getting a good job for the local county council. She's 58 in two weeks time. Yeahh Janie - go!
P.S. Yes - how about signing up with a temp. agency for labouring type work?
