David Icke - mad as a box of frogs?

Having just re-acquainted myself with 'The Truth Vibrations' I thought I'd check out what David Icke was up to these days and I was interested to see he's still persevering in the face of mass criticism, with a US tour planned, talk shows, TV appearances, and a veritable raft of new books.

Curious to know how the AB community perceive Mr Icke's writings/views - are you of the opinion that he is (as She Who Must Be Obeyed is fond of saying) 'mad as a balloon' or do you lend any credibility to his views and experiences. Has anyone read any of his more recent outpourings?

That is a gross insult to balloons!

But seriously folks, I am reminded of what he wrote in the introduction to his book "It doesn't have to be like this" (c. 1989) when he was still a fairly mainstream politician in the Green Party. It was something along the lines of

"First a professional footballer, then a TV presenter, then a Green politician - What next? Nothing next. Nothing could possibly be more important than the fundamental task of saving the planet from human destruction and pollution..."

But that was when he was not, er, bonkers.

It's not a word I like to use but in this case bernado's use of 'bonkers' is extremely apt!

I expect some of us can remember David as a good looking reporter who lived on the Isle of Wight, had a lovely young family and I believe either organized, or was instrumental in a particular large southern sports event for the disabled (apologies if the last bit is incorrect).

I've read numerous accounts of his theories and predictions including my favourite- the 'lizards'. He is a joke figure I know, but I can't help feeling really sad for him. I wonder what exactly triggered him off down this very strange path?

I always think it's an interesting point that, regardless of what his views may sound like, no one can actually prove him wrong..! So, the truth is that many of us - more than we'd like to think - simply base our own views and ideas firmly within the boundaries of the socially accepted norms, so as not to be classed alongside the lunatics..!! Personally, I have no problem with a little independent thinking - even if the poor soul IS as mad as a fish..!! The least you could ever acknowledge is that his tireless touring schedules prove he clearly believes every word of it himself, and I find at least some of his ideas a damn sight more interesting and amusing than anything on prime-time British TV..!! :o)

tommy- of course you can prove him wrong. he claimed that the royal family were lizards-m a gross insult to lizards. so dig up the queen mum, count the scales and tails then tell if he's right. or dig out her hip replacement x rays.

P.S. I have found the exact quote in his book from 1990 (as I mentioned above)

"Well what a turn up. From professional footballer to television presenter to green politician. Whatever next? Nothin next. There is nothing I could possibly do that is more important, more urgent, than campaign fror Green values at the heart of politics. What is left of my life will be dedicated to that end."

But even more interesting is what Mr Icke wrote earlier in the introduction:

"The man who has written this book is completely out of his mind. Quite bonkers. Do you know he actually believes that you can't go on taking more and more from the Earth every year and turning it into more and more pollution. What nonsense!"

i think his talk about 9' lizards is meant to be allegorical many people including mike moore now openly talk about a secret society and a so called elite davos, g8, bilderberg, freemasons it may be that mr icke was indeed telling the truth in a round about way
