Mib's has lost me several times in this thread (not for the first time) but I think I understood that the point being made was that there is no God and that things that are painful happen everyday with no explanation why. They just do and to blame a entity that doesn't exist is pointless and only hurts you more in the long run as it's a way of dwelling on all the negative... or at least that's what I think Mibs said.
If that is what Mib's said that I have some agreement with that theory but for you Stevie I think that it doesn't help so much as you firmly believe there is a God and he/she/it is in some way responsible for all that's happened to you.

Much as I sympathise Stevie, I don't think that God is responsible for all that you have gone through. In much the same way as it's not responsible for anything in my life. I make decisions and live with the repercussions. Sometimes they're good, sometimes they're bad but ultimately most things in my life can be traced back to a decision or course I took; good and bad.
Obviously I'm not saying for one minute that your nephew made the decision to get run over and my heart goes out to you. I lost my god-sister at a young age to an RTA. But God didn't decide to take her, she was just in the road when a great lump of metal came flying at her and she died as a result. Things happen for no reason and not because of all the sins we commit, they just happen. To look for someone to blame just fuels anger and does not give you a chance to live in peace.

There's a lot of beauty in the world as well as a lot of suffering, maybe you could try and appreciate that rather than dwelling on the negatives. Think about it, you still have your life, you can spend it dwelling on all the cr@p or you can get up and go sit in a field for a day with a book and a bottle of wine, (I have hippy tendencies). I know which I'd prefer to do.
The circumstances you have told us of go some way to explaining even more about your initial anger at wanting to bop "God" one.
There's a lot of us have been there Stevie. Divorced but with my chldren now all adults I have learned quite a lot along the way. My "God" doesn't need any organised religion, most of which I find incredibly hypocritical. I just find that at times in my life when I've been at my lowest something - maybe only a smile from a stranger - has happened to pick me up. "God"? The jury's out. But what I have learned is to value myself more than ever before. Although grotty thngs still happen to me I find myself just looking for the event that will "break" the run of bad things. And it comes! Weird, hey?
I don't have a partner in my life but I am blessed with family and friends who are amazing. Do I really need more than that? I'm neither asking or looking for more. If it comes, it comes. Like I said earlier, when I die, if I meet "God" it'll be a bonus. He'll have to take me as I am like everyone else does!
Focus on you and your children. They are all that matters. I still get pangs when I hear my ex and his wife are gadding round the world again while I'm stuck here but, hey, **** happens. He doesn't have my friends and family. I don't know whether he has the degree of peace of mind I now have but I'm not much bothered. That feeling of "it should have been better for us" that you may be experiencing comes and goes but gets easier. Maybe we have to go through all this **** to make us who we are.
Love your kids - don't hide yourself from them. Give them positivity and you'll get it back. Give them your time and attention and they'll not have to fight to get it. Give them values and boundaries and they'll have security. Just look for the best and it'll come.
All the best - if I made it this far, you can! x x x

I believe in evolution. We are born, we live, then we die. Unfortunately some of us pass away before we have lived a life. Tsunamis, earthquakes, flooding, bush fire are all a way of saying that this planet is alive and evolving. Also the way humans act can be attributed to religious domination and greed for land. We all know that millions of Jews were murdered during the Polish invasion but how many millions were murdered when the British invaded countries all around the world and called it the British Empire?
My philosophy is that this world would be a better place without humans.
Rant over!

tiggerblue, I haven't found there to be a shortage of people who would agree with you that the world would be a better place without humans. Nor does there appear these days to be a shortage of people willing to do not only their part to make this world a "better place" but are seeing to it that a few others do their part as well while they're at it. I just have to wonder how many among their victims had developed and were employing better methods to make this world a better place for humanity. What seems to be in short supply is people who value their lives and relise that this world is the only place where they can live and therefore treat it (and each other) with the respect that it deserves and demands for their continued survival.
My philosophy is that this world is a meaningless dot in the universe if devoid of a creature possessing the consciousness to perceive its existence, the intelligence to appreciate its beauty, the knowledge to protect it and the wisdom to understand that without both a world and those who cherish it and each other, nothing else matters.
