Where did we come from?

How do anthiests believe the world started?
There are only a couple of possibilites really.
To say you dont believe in god must mean you believe we are here through some other force, but evolution is a load of made up crap. You say believing in god is far fetched, but i think believeing in evoultion is even more far fatched.

I don't know if you're looking for a response from me so I thought I would post one to properly respect your view.
I am not priviledged enough to know who the Creator is. It is my belief that I will when the time comes.
You say aliens put us here as some kind of social experiment to see how long it would take us to destroy ourselves.
You may very well be right but then so could all of us who have replied to this string.
What do you base your 'aliens started life on this planet' belief stem from?
I am truly interested to know.
By the way...I love the taste of blackberries in August. In our part of the world that is when they're at their sweetest!

Praline, 'God wants us to love him through our own free will'. Why then, does he threaten us with eternal damnation if we don't?
Legend, I believe that 'aliens' created us through genetic engineering, and that the ancient gods, including the god of the bible, were people from other planets. Having said that, that doesn't explain how they originally came into being.

Acceptance of the self-evident proof of existence does not require any knowledge of how it came to be. To acknowledge that the world exists is only a first step to learning the processes by which it came into existence. Beliefs are not a shortcut to knowledge and stumbling blindly down the path of faith will lead you so far astray that the very existence of a path to knowledge will soon evade recognition.
Belief in God demonstrates a complete ignorance of the process by which knowledge is obtained and belief that the universe was created by an entity that acquired knowledge of how to create a blackberry on the hillside of some remote planet in the cosmos by pondering the nature of a complete void without the use of an organ to facilitate reasoned thought is utterly ludicrous.
I believe in the existence of mothers and that mothers made us all. It is through a process of observation of how things happen accompanied with the effort to engage in rational thought that I discovered this great truth. You can not have any knowledge of anything without a living functioning brain let alone acquire the knowledge that would be required to create a universe without the benefit of having experienced the existence of a universe to learn in.
Who created god? The answer to this question is so obvious that if you took an honest look in the mirror it would bite you in the face.

I don't know how the universe came about and neither does anyone else. Religionists are often reluctant to confess to this ignorance and so subscribe to some creation myth or other - of which there are so many spread across the world's religions that they have been classified into seven categories.
Modern compex life certainly came about by the evolutionary process of random mutation followed by natural selection. Those who reject this either (a) don't understand it, or (b) are forbidden by their religion to accept it. To call evolution "made up crap" is just plain silly.

'Evolution is not conclusive. The theory is flawed and more time goes on the more doubtful it gets.'
Praline this would be an argument from ignorance.
'Neither theory is technically conclusive or proofable'
There's way more evidence for evolution than God. God has zero, that's why it's called 'faith' as it's belief despite the absence of proof.
'If we teach children they came from animals they will probably grow up like animals.'
I'm not normally rude but Praline sir, you are a moron.

I have to say, Llamatron has a point. I can't see that if we teach evolution to children, they will necessarily grow up like animals. Even people who believe in evolution rather than god have their standards - and usually pretty good ones at that. It's just a matter of knowing right from wrong - and we don't need religion to teach us basic decency.
Sunflower, forget scientology. Just read what is written in the bible and other ancient texts, apply what you read to today's technology - and use a bit of logic. Voila!!

I've had enough of this thread now, it's driving my brain bonkers. I do believe in god and it's that wrong then i don't wanna be right. I can't and don't want to accept the fact that i just die and then i'm a statistic for future human studies or something. I would crack up. I don't like Science, governments or politics its all about control, and too much science is bad for my health if i wanna drink wine til i pass out and drive my car fast putting only myself at risk then i will. I think governments have more control on our everyday lives than we care to imagine and with modern theory's of how our world evolved means MOre control than ever.
Llamatran HAHA. I bet your normally rude.

I agree noami24 that basic decency is imbreed in the majority of us.(except Llamatran). I have huge worries on where society would end up if there were no religious fears or impacts.
On the other hand religion does have a bad name for causing war and chaos. But its the actions of man thats bring it, so the cause is man not religion. Would we find something else to fight about?

Praline 25, a praline is either a single nut, usually an almond, coated with sugar, or chopped nuts similarly treated.
You did not join this site just to ask questions but also to make a fatuous comment about evolution, followed by a few others. (Of course children descend from animals: animals called parents.)
If you genuinely want to learn about evolution then ask away. There are intelligent and knowlegeable people on this site willing to help you.

I don't see why Praline shouldn't ask whatever questions he/she wants. Driving a car 'putting only myself at risk', however, seems like nonsense. How do you know you're not going to hit someone else? And if you're made in God's image, how do you think He feels about you deliberately smashing yourself up?
