No - and yes, this sort of question is usually welcomed here.
Allowed? It's positively mandatory!

Personally no, nor devils, nor pixies nor goblins etc.
No, but whichever way people answer, is it really going to be that helpful to you?

What do you really want to know?
In a way no but i will contradict myself and say i do like to think there is, i have had all my children christened and they all beleive in god, my son goes to beavers and knows the promise which includes loving god. I would say i dont always beleive in God when in the past i have been so desperate and low that i will say i have preyed and doesn't seem that anyone was listening or helping, too many bad things have happened in this world for me to have faith i think. thats my personal opinion.
Yes and No.
I'm not sure really Chris.
I believe there is something that links us all together and that whatever we do has effects that we don't see. I think that some things happen in this life that can't be explained and that sometimes things are rendered more beautiful if they don't have an explanation.

However the whole heaven/hell God/Devil thing... Nah...!

Now never, never land and Peter Pan.... That's more my thing!

What about you? What do you believe?
Question Author
personally, not god as in god and devil.... but...
i do believe there is something... maybe created by each person in their own head just so they feel special, and not alone... all cultures and religions believe in something like a god, but why? i think everyone has that thing inside them, in their conscience.. to make them believe in something....

but thats just me :)

I think you answered your own quesiton Chris.

The concept that we're alone in the universe is very frightening. To believe there's something else is comforting.

It also gives an inspirational figure to look up to. Something to aspire to be like.

Some people also think that without religion we can have no concept of right and wrong.

Not necessarily my views. Just some reasons why people do believe.
Rather than my being my typical loquacious self, Ill answer that by sending you to what I would have written Apologies, I have to run

no!
Your diary is cool Father Bill, it looks like you do some good work with the project, keep it up!!
As a follow on to chrisvaughan's question, to those who do believe in God, what image do you have of God? How would you describe him?
The science of faith.

You definately take my award for oxymoron of the day there!

I think you miss a key point. In science we do often take quite a bit on faith but we invoke the principle that extra-ordinary claims require extra-ordinary proof.

I'm quite willing to believe that yet another planet has been found around a distant star, they are being found with such regularity, but if you want me to believe in cold fusion I'm going to want to see some pretty convincing evidence.

Unfortunately most religious claims fall into the latter category - I'll happily believe that loving ones neighbour builds good communities, but when carpenters rise from the dead I'm going to want better proof than I've ever seen from a church.

That is one reason why faith is not, has never been and will never be a science.
"Do you believe in God?" What is this, a poll? I believe in questioning the basis for what I believe and in understanding the nature of what I believe in. Who or what is "God" supposed to be? Tell me what God told you and I will consider whether it should be believed?

I believe in learning what is real and what is only an illusion derived from willful ignorance or wishful thinking and that this can and should be determined through a process of reasoning. The only thing I have ever learned from the outcome of a poll is that most people are intellectually challenged. Hopefully you also will come to the same conclusion.
If there is a single deity he certainly reveals himself in mysterious ways. It can not make up its mind if it is a spirit living in a tree, bit of a party goer Zeus or if its the one true God.

No I don't, I think like others, humans are comforted with the idea of a creator of some sort endowed with magical skills and properties. But, its just human creation which is why the stories are often so rich and colourful, limited only by the authors imagination.

Religion on the other hand is a piece of work, its man made tool used as a method of control and dominance.
