Other gods in other belief systems may well be a 'what'. Particularly the dark and mysterious Turtle god of Winter solstice in the Pleiades. That always makes me go..."what"???

I disagree with all of you.
Gods are a way of blocking out the harsh reality that we are not immortal, they are just a way for us to feel better about ourselves for when our big day comes.
A little like a child with an immaginary friend that keeps them company. All a god does is re-assure us that we will be ok when the big day arrives.
Think about it. If we knew for certain that there was nothing after life then what would we have to live for and why would every one work so hard for the things that they have if we are never going to reap the benifits.
Its just my opinion.

Ashbazz, What an odd argument. If there's nothing left after life, surely life is still worth living to the full. Does that mean if you believe in a God, then you're living to die - and if you don't believe in a God then life isn't worth living?
Incidentally, we work hard to reap benefits in this life. As far as I'm aware, none of us can take it with us.
