Has religion got a lot to answer for?

We spent Sunday putting Christmas trees and fairy lights up, and now, as every Christmas, I face two weeks of the usually dignifed Mr N going about the house singing "Deck your bowels with bits of holly, tra la la la laaa ..... la la la laaaaaa" at the top of his voice. Oh help! Yes, religion certainly has a lot to answer for! :o)

That is the great beauty of the modern secular Christmas.

Pretty much everyone of any faith or none can join in with behaving badly and irritating their friends and family.

Well naomi, I absolutely adore Christmas and I love all the nonsense that surrounds it!
The dreadfulness or commercialism has always been there, so the choice is ours how much or how little we absorb.On the religious side we more or less know that Jesus was actually born in September, but who cares? Next Friday we shall be standing in the courtyard of a 17th century house singing carols (not your husband's version!) with a few hundred other people, followed by a giant mince pie and a mulled drink. Can't wait.

Lonnie No, thankfully he doesn't, even though he's very into extreme sports!! Incidentally, he's got a horrible voice - but, bless him, he tries - and when everyone moans, he ignores them!!

Cetti I couldn't agree with you more. You're absolutely right - who cares? Isn't it such wonderful fun?! Alright, we do have the awful commercialism, but we don't worry about that in our house, and our Christmas is pretty traditional and family orientated. In fact our TV or radio don't go on from beginning to end, so we have no outside influences at all - and it's just lovely. I would dearly love to join you on Friday for what sounds like a perfect Christmas evening, but not only is it a long way to come - we have our village Carols on that night when everyone gets together with the obligatory mince pies, mulled wine and more - and I'm so looking forward to it. I do hope you have a wonderful time, and I shall be thinking of you.

Luna - I'll be expecting you, our foremost songbird, to lead AB in a festive rendition - spoons and all! - so don't let us down!

No I love Christmas.

I especially love going around the house singing things like that out of tune too.

I get a lot of abuse for it as well especially on Halloween
