The use of dictaphones
My boyfriend is getting divorced. His wife got up one morning and decided that she wanted a divorce, three quarters of everything they owned, including the house, a car and his pensions. My b/f was left reeling especially after the seperation was granted on his unreasonable behaviour. 18 mths on they are still living in the same house, mainly because he has to pay all the bills, utilities, mortgage, even her car insurance, and cant afford to move out. There are two children. In 22 years of marriage, she worked for a total of six months, connsumated the marriage seven times and even employed a housekeeper to do the house and laundry. It has come to light however that she has had a 'secret' job and has been stashing money away, and the fact of this discovery has made her so mad. She now writes to her solicitor every week to get him out of the house, as well as causing problems when he does arrive home. I advised him to get a dictaphone which he did and recorded the conversations, and the things she says to him make my hair stand on end but yet becomes the femme fatale if anyone asks. Apolgies for the length of my question but what I really want to know is, how legal is it for him to record the conversations? He doesnt want anyone to listen to them other than himself (I only listened to a couple!) and his solicitor. Thanks

If she has something to do at the weekend she will arrange for someone else to look after them without telling him, despite him being home for them, then writes to the solicitor to say he wont do anything with them. Its this kind of thing he wants to record. He wants joint custody, believing that if they live close to each other then the boys come and go between both of them without disruption to school social life either. Its an awful mess. I have been through a divorce too, many years ago, but we were adult about it, especially witht he children.
