Have just seen an interesting light in the sky
18 Answers
I just popped out into my garden, and looked up to the sky as I often do, to see the stars. I noticed a bright light which I first thought was an aeroplane, but I only saw one light and it was moving at a fast/steady pace across the sky. I called to my husband to see it and he said "it's just a plane". I knew it wasn't as we get many going over and there are always more than one light as it passes. It carried on and then gradually got smaller and smaller and then faded to nothing and disappeared. I have seen a shooting star once before, but it moved quite a bit quicker than this light did. Has anyone got any ideas as to what it was?

There are many strange, weird and wonderful things zipping about the skies.
Most of them may have a quite simple explanation and others not so easy.
I have witnessed movements of lights or craft that have had no normal pattern to their flight and even a solid triangular thing that appeared to have a giant electric cooker hob ring glowing underneath it.
What did you see?
Only your senses and previous knowledge of man-made craft flying at night will tell you what it isn't but maybe some of the more educated folks on here can tell you and I exactly what it was. Probe? Satellite? maybe.
Either way, these experiences are fantastic to behold.

Here are the dates of the ISS sightings for Gravesend Rosie:

Be a bit careful as you can easily turn into a real sky nerd. There is just so much to see if you just take the time to look. A few years ago I was in the garden with my son and we were fortunate to see the docking procedure of the Space Station. Amazing!
We have also seen things that no one has been able to explain.

The reason I know it was the ISS is that I went out to watch it myself. It's probably even brighter than usual at the moment because the Space Shuttle is docked to it, thus reflecting a bit more light (but it's very bright anyway because of all those shiny solar panels). Once you've seen it once or twice, it's pretty much unmistakable.
