In Christianity, women who want to live a religious life can become nuns and vicars etc, but what choices do women from other religions have if they choose to be more than mere worshippers of their faith?

You have the Bhikkhunis in Buddhism, and female Rabbi's exist. Some factions of Islam also support the idea of women acting as imams and leading in salah, although this is equally disputed by others. Female pandits are also common in Hinduism, as are Granthi and Gurus in Sikhism.
Ripley, When I was a kid, we used to call the ordained women, "Penguins."
Where've you been? I've been trawling through these pesky posts every day looking out for you.
Who said pills and wine don't mix? Well they might have been right because my head is banging right now!
Speak in the morning. don't be late on parade!

Hi Theland. Am feeling very down again. I try so hard to lift my mood, but am failing dreadfully.
Why don't you try to register on the P.M.'s in the sports section? It's easy.
Sorry to hear you are low.
Did you get any help from anybody? G.P. etc?
Question Author
I did manage to register, but I still don't understand how you send personal messages on the system. I'm not very good at working things out at the moment.
I'll go back there now and send you a message.
Done it!
Now you go back and log in, then you will find a friendship invitation from me.
Just click on the link and bingo! All done.
I'll check here, and P.M.'s a few times this evening to see if there is anything from you. O.K.?
Question Author
No message seen. Sorry.Try again?
Question Author
Theland, I have accidentally sent you 4 welcome messages, but am unable to send you a text message. When it asks me to select a recipients name, I am unable to write anything in the appropriate space. I'm feeling very thick, but will keep trying and apologise for any clutter in your in-tray.
Question Author
Still cannot place your name in the 'select contact' box and am also unable to add names to my friends list, which actually reflects real life in truth.
Ripley, under Theland's invitation, there should be a box saying 'add a friend' or something like that. Try clicking on that.
Question Author
I didn't receive Theland's invitation. I have no messages in the in box. I just don't get it!
I'll try sending you an invitation. You should get an email telling you you have received an invitation on SB. Sign yourself into SB and then click on 'new messages' in the top right hand corner - then click on my message to you. Once it's open, it will ask if you want to accept the invitation. Click 'accept', and then I think you have to click 'add to friends'.

I've got to go out now, but I'll check later to see if we've cracked it. If not, we'll keep trying, so don't worry.

Many thanks naomi24. Have replied to your message. Thank you.
You're welcome Ripley. And please call me Naomi - dispensing with the surname. All the best people do, you know! (One even calls me 'Ni' occasionally - don't you Waldo?). :o)

Theland, where's your message to Ripley gone? Maybe you could try again?
On the main forum I am Theland1, but in the P.M.'s I simply plain old Theland. I know, a mess, but not of my making.
Try sending pm;s to both - try that.
Question Author
I still dont seem to be having any luck getting through to you on the personal messaging, Theland. Maybe you could send me another greeting and we'll see how it goes. I just don't understand how I can work out the sytem with naomi, but cannot get it to work with you.
Ripley, it's all my fault. I typed your name but omitted the 58.
I shall try again pronto. Silly me.
There! I've done it, Ripley58, so go have a looksee and then we can rock and roll and swap recipes.
Look forward to hearing from you.
We'll be up all night chatting!
It's religion that does it Ripley. It addles the brain. :o)
