What's happened to R&S?

Is R&S becoming a glorified Chatterbank? I think it is, and it's a pity. As much as I like a joke - and as much as I join in with the jokes - I really would like to see it revert once more to mainly intelligent debate on serious and interesting topics - with the odd light-hearted thread thrown in - as it used to be.

Well I am certainly guilty of lowering the tone of the neighbourhood so to speak.
For that I apologise.
Yes, my chit chat has probably been instrumental in maybe driving more serious debaters away, and as you say, that is a pity.
I shall endeavour to do my bit in future to roll back the tide of flippancy, and treat these serious subjects with the respect they deserve.
Apologies too naomi. I like this section because there is more often some discussion going on so if I have lowered the tone recently I'm sorry and I'll keep that sort of thing for CB.
Its OK naomi (good Old Testament name that) Its the 'Second Coming' of R&S.
But, surely, religion IS a joke?
delboy3, not necessarily

Theland and Bensmum, please don't apologise. I'm not critisizing anyone. I'm just as guilty as anyone else when it comes to making jokes. I sit here in fits of laughter at times, and I'm not electing myself R&S police. It's merely an observation - one that Mibs too has made elsewhere. It just seems to me that almost every time a good debate is underway, someone comes along and throws it completely off course, either with humour, or with personal comments which bear no relation to the original question. I just wondered what everyone else thought.

Booldawg - very good.

Mibs, that is AWFUL!! And no, it's not funny. Could be a good subject for discussion?

Too much spirit and not enough religion.

And Mib's link was very funny but in a darkly humerous way. There is many an important message in laughter.
Question Author
China, I agree there are important messages to be found in laughter - humour is very important - but I can't agree that Mibs link was even remotely funny.

Erm ... that's something to do with football, isn't it? Are we being sent off, or do we get a free chuck of a custard pie? (dashes off to the fridge in eager anticipation).
