London Underground Guardian Angels

Does anybody know if there are still volunteer groups patrolling the London Underground such as the Guardian Angels.
I remember back in the 80's they were a reassuring presence. I think they wore red berets.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.No, they were disbanded ages ago. The last report I heard was about 8 years ago and there were about 4 who were still regularly riding the tube at night.
The British Transport police discouraged their activities as they were untrained, placing themselves and the public at risk. I'm not sure if they still ride the New York subway.

I remember them, from when I was commuting regularly in London in the late 80's/early 90's. Yes they wore red berets. You'd frequently see them at Earl's Court.
Their founder Curtis Sliwa is still alive and kicking in the US. Damn I used to listen to his breakfast show on the car radio on my commute into work (over there). Even remember seeing Sliwa one time on a tube when I was in back in London.
It always was a little odd to have some 'self-appointed' person get ony our tube carriage to watch over you. But as I get older, I see the good that they do, and that GA is also a vehicle for people turning their lives around.
