Tombs and effigies

I'm sure I remember being told once that the positioning of an effigy on a tomb and the animal they are depicted with indicates the way they died. Anyone got any knowledge?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I think they were intended to depict a sentiment such as valour or loyalty or to reflect the life/hobbies/skill of the person entombed rather than amethod of death. Some do of course, here are some ideas.....
