Catholic child abusing priests

Is there a higher proportion of child abusers among the catholic clergy than in normal society, or does it just seem this way because they are supposed to be pillars of the community/morals etc so whenever it happens it gets a lot of press?

The answer to your Q is, no. Sadly paedophilia occurs in all walks of life, creed, colour and nationality. If there is any proportional representation, then conclusively you could say that most paedophiles are men.

no-one can answer that really, can they? we dont even know what figures are involved, some offences may be covered up, some may never be reported.

I think that it seems to be a large percentage in that group because it hits headlines more because of their position in community

My feeling is same that good and bad are ever where in this world. And it is true that few people are reported more than the others. For example according to Daily Mail most of the Muslims are terrorists and according to abdulmajid all Muslims are rapists and paedophiles.

AND THE PRESENT POPE WAS INCHARGE OF THE DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATING THE ABUSE FOR OVER 20 YEARS .

People who have a desire to abuse children have tendency to gravitate to positions where they have access to, or power over children.
To put it simply these people became Priests in order to abuse children and for no other reason.
Another view you could take is this, was every care home worker in the 1970s and 80s (to date?) a child abuser?
