Is there a higher proportion of child abusers among the catholic clergy than in normal society, or does it just seem this way because they are supposed to be pillars of the community/morals etc so whenever it happens it gets a lot of press?

I am well aware of what the Pope has done (or not done as the case may be). If "figures" were release, then what other figures would they be compared against.
Brionon, your analogy then pretty much asserts that anyone man wishing to be a teacher, youth worker or paedeatrician, is probably a paedophile. What an intelligent observation. Fool.

To put it simply these people became Priests in order to abuse children and for no other reason.
Another view you could take is this, was every care home worker in the 1970s and 80s (to date?) a child abuser?
