During Shabbat (Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath) there is a long list of forbidden tasks, as all unnecessary work is prohibited on that day.

One such task is 'tearing' and some Jews use special toilet paper that comes in individual sheets, so no tearing is necessary.

Married ladies are expected to keep their hair hidden at all times - it is for the eyes of God and her husband only. Of course, these ladies want to look their best, and many wear beautiful wigs.

Meat and dairy must be kept separate at all times. Many Jewish households have two fridges and anything that has come into contact with meat or dairy will be kept separate and washed up separately.

The full rules for being a Jew are in Leviticus, and each individual Jew will choose which of them he or she will obey. What is a mystery is why Christians also pick and choose from these Jewish rules. Their rejection of homosexuality, for example, comes from this book but those same Christians don't reject the idea of prawn cocktails or ham sandwiches, neither do they sacrifice lambs or kids when their children are born. All very odd.

How wonderfully free it is to be an atheist and not be bound by these unnatural and weird restrictions.

I 'picked out' examples because to have quoted all the rules and regulations in Leviticus would have taken several pages. I merely pointed out that Christians pick out one or two rules that suit them but cheerfully ignore the rest. If you disagree explain why.

Ethel and Octavius should spend some time reading the Jew's sacred testament. It clearly states that their God selected them as the "chosen people" and helped their forefathers commit a brutal genocide against more than 30 tribes who already lived there.

We have been brought up with a tradition that we must respect the religious beliefs of others. Yet there is no more reason to respect in the Jewish faith than that of the Nazis who held practical identical philosophies of god given superiority and mass genocide.

The Bible is upheld by the believers as God's proscription on how to behave, that is, the Rules of the Jewish Faith.

It does not matter if the Bible is an accurate record of the Israelite history or simply mythology. Believers accept it as fact and many Israelite scholars spend their lives trying to back it up with scientific evidence.

By accepting the faith the believer accepts that the genocides conducted by the Israelites were the Will of God. Those who disregard the Book of Joshua but claim to follow the Bible are the ones who are picking and choosing.

Personally I believe the whole of the Bible is a load of bunkum written by arrogant mysogynists. However it is a dangerous load of bunkum accepted by billions of people and is a big part of what is bad in the world.
