for the life and times, Life of Brian paints a pretty convincing picture: hot sun, quarrelsome locals, preachers on every corner. I imagine Palestine looked very much like that.
and women with beards. except in that photo of course.
Hi Wizard. Don't read too much into my answer. And no I don't have a link, although I have seen the letter in the museum. As you say there would have been many people with names like Jesus and James. The letter is quite probably genuine in referring to 'a Jesus'. being executed. I didn't imply that the Jesus in the letter was the Jesus of the Bible, merely stated the fact of the existence of the letter. As for the tomb which was discovered some two or three years ago, this was reported in the media by the archaeologists who discovered it, and they pointed out that it was only a possibility that this James could have been the brother of the biblical Jesus. Sorry Wiz I could have made it clearer if I had put 'Jesus a man' rather than 'Jesus the man', in the first sentence. There seems to be a lot of ongoing discussion on this subject, and I feel that those who are interested in finding out what they believe or don't believe will just have to keep on searching, although I don't think there will ever be a cut and dried answer. Best wishes. Schutz.
Ankou. There's absolutely no need to be so rude, I would never pass comment to you in that way.
no seriously i thought your post was a complete wind up. clearly not. i take it back.
Waldo. Thank you for the information about the ossuary. Interesting isn't it. I think if you look at my post of 12.31 to Wizard, you will see that I wasn't referring to the Jesus of the Bible, but to a man named Jesus. I should have made that clearer in the first answer. It's a bit curious that so many people are interested in proving or disproving the existance of the biblical Jesus. I wonder why? Schutz.
Ankou. Apology accepted. You're forgiven. :-)
what with no prayers or anything? cool, i like that.
Ankou. Curiosity and wanting to know the answers to things, is a very valuable trait, and it will serve you in good stead through life. Don't change for anyone, just keep on being curious, we learn a lot that way. Best wishes. Schutz.
If you want to truly know Jesus then pray for Him to reveal Himself to you- you will not be dissappointed + your prayer will be answered as it was for me when prayed this prayer at the age of 14 + at the age of 15 knew in my heart + mind + whole being that Jesus of the Bible was real + The Holy Spirit filled me with such deep love and peace like had never experienced beforehand. There will never be enough evidence for those whom are closed in mind or not willing to accept Jesus as whom He said he was. Will not get into any intellectual tussles with anyone here. Just will say, if you dare, pray to Jesus Himself to show Himself to your mind + heart then you can make the decision on whether or not to take Jesus seriously. If you seek out God, with a truly open mind, you will find God.
Recommend you read the book:- The Torn Veil by Gulshan Esther
http://www.southasianconnection.com/articles/2 80/1/The-Torn-Veil---The-True-Story-of-Esther- Gulshan-Fatima/Page1.html

On her conversion to Christianity (from page 71 of The Torn Veil):

I now saw that Jesus was not just a poor, secondary prophet, he was an eternal king, and would be coming again to bring in a heavenly kingdom on earth, as in heaven.

Beatrice I really really hoping you are joking

otherwise i would seek pyschiatric help
Naomi, just where in the bible does it say that jesus was a rabbi ?
Sherman- Am in sound mind. Also, know am going to Heaven when my time is up on earth as have accepted Jesus as my Saviour. Sherman, if you have nothing to fear then ask God to show himself to you. If you think He is not real then what difference does it make if you say to him- okay God not sure about you yet if you are real then let me understand whom you are? Do you dare say this prayer?

Another book would recommend to you is : " Why is God Laughing?" by Deepak Chopra

Jesus was a teacher yet also son of God + one with God Himself. Jesus is the only way to God. Through Jesus you have eternal life. You have the facts then you decide what you want to do. Or dare to pray to God Himself to show Himself to you. What have you to lose? Everything to gain.
Jesus and the Adman by Rhidian Brook ( a thought provoking fiction book) Would also recommend to read:-)
Time for lunch, Bea :-)

right beatrice your going to heaven are you?

ok answer me this? you seem very happy with yourself that your going to heaven tell me this

what will you do if when you get there there is another holy war? what if the next lucifer decides to go for the thrown the day you arrive? im talking angels with their heads rolling off just piles of wings and no bodies cause they have all been hacked off and rivers of blood from all the dead souls why oh why would you want to go there?
Brionon. Jesus wasn't a Rabbi in the modern sense of the word, as used for the leader of a Jewish Synagogue. In the Bible in John 1, verses 36-38 two disciples address Jesus as rabbi, and John explains that the Hebrew word means teacher. In 1st century Palestine the word 'rabbi' with a small 'r' was a usual form of address equivalent to the English word 'sir', but later developed the meaning of teacher.

just think Naomi you could be St Paul!....think about it, all you did is look at what you know of jesus and contstructed a story round him exactly the same as paulo did!

Sherman, no, you think. After that ridiculous comment, frankly, I don't know why I bothered to answer you. Whilst I said initially that I can only offer my opinion (and if someone comes up with a more logical explanation, I am quite prepared to admit that I'm wrong), the theories (and they are theories) are based upon years of study of the information available, so what precisely didn't you understand?

Incidentally, the Koran was written several hundred years after the event, and its contents were hijacked from Christian and Jewish texts, so in this instance it can be disregarded.

Waldo is quite right about the ossary that was found.

Brionon, I'm surprised you needed to ask.

Beatrice, I can recommend an interesting read to you. The Bible. Read it all. You might learn something.
Ankou, you mean he didnt claim to be the messiah because he wasnt quoted as saying it in the bible? so if one or two of the writers said he said it, then it would be true???

I meant what I said.

Naoimi didnt mean to offend but as we dont know he existed at all, all those years of study are surely only based on myth and heresay therefore any theory has to be as good as another?
all im saying is you have constructed a good story on what we think we know of him so your version of his life is just as valid as st pauls but anyone could have written the new testament?

if im wrong please tell me i honestly dont know?
