Hi, can anyone provide me with the script lol obviously without the confessions for the way Roman Catholic reconcilliation goes. Its been such a long time im afraid to say, although i remember the jist of it i dont want to muck it up. Cheers K.X
As a non-believer, I hesitate to give you this link. To my mind it's absolutely atrocious - but it's not my mind that has to deal with it, so here you are. I hope it's what you're looking for.
naomi, I'm not sure that 'atrocious' is strong enough. I doubt whether those in the grip of Soviet communism had to subject themselves to such vicious and humiliating interrogation. Under 'Thou shalt not commit adultery' there is 'Did I dress immodestly?', for heaven's sake!
Why do people of otherwise sound mind subject themselves to such indignities? Have they no pride? And how can any priest visit such verbal and emotional cruelty on another? Yet another example of the inhumanity of Roman Catholicism. Brrr-- it makes me shudder.
If you check the link naomi supplied you will find that the word 'interrogation' is well justified.
By 'inhumane' I mean that it is another case where the Church cares more about its own invented rules and unsympathetic dogma than it does about the people concerned. Other examples that are without scriptural justification:
It bans contraceptives without the slightest concern for the dreadful burdens that puts on women in poor families who simply cannot cope with a large number of children, nor for the resulting spread of AIDS and other STDs. It bans priests from marrying or having sex and then tries to cover up the shocking chIld abuse that is surely one (inexcusable) consequence of that dogma. It frightens children by telling them nonsense about the horrors of hell, causing real childhood distress.
The general motto of Roman Catholicism is 'Church first, people second.' Such an unpleasant branch of Christianity that makes even an atheist like me look with affection on harmless, well-meaning Anglicanism.
Hello Chakka, they subject themselves to such indignities in order that another human being will tell them their perceived sins are forgiven - but just don't wear THAT dress again! However, just how that other person can possibly know, and confirm, they're in the clear as far as their God is concerned, is the million dollar question.
Ankou, you might try answering points instead of just making silly ad hominem comments. You'll find it much more satisfying. So will we.
Sorry, musicmummy, I should have just looked at the site naomi pointed us to and then shut up, as she commendably did. But eventually this site isn't like that, so you're wise to leave it.
Would you like to explain that last comment, Ankou?
I have also, over the years, met many 'nice people' on this site - religionists, atheists, fence-sitters and the merely curious.
What are 'nay sayers' and are they, in particular, not 'nice'?
