My 7 year old son has brought home a letter stating that his (Primary) school intend to show 7 - 11 year olds in the school sex education DVD's (There are 3 DVD's - one for year 3 and 4 pupils, one for year 5, and one for year 6).

Parents have been invited to preview the DVD's (my girlfriend will be doing so but I can't as they are being shown in the early afternoon and I will be at work)........however I've told her that regardless of what is on the DVD our son will not be watching it

I'm just totally speechless that our schools want to teach sex education to such young children. In my opinion when children reach High School (11 years old) is more than early enough for them to be taught about the birds and the bees.

My son is still an innocent, naive child and doesn't need to know about such things at such a young age..... he still actually believes in Father Christmas and the Tooth Fairy, and they want to teach him about sexual matters!!!

stand by that decision joe, you are totally correct imo
it does seem very young, let girlfriend watch the dvd before you make up your mind totally.
Sorry no i agree with this..
they won't be teaching how to be gay just yet. Generally, the younger the better; information is soaked up more easily and without embarrassment. Why not try to find out exactly what is being taught before condemning it?
it does seem a bit young really..but saying that id rather have my kids [if i had any that young] aware of the dangers of unwanted pregnancies etc etc...when you look at the fact some girls have babies when they are 12 nowadays it really does seem that the age of innocence has well and truly gone...and that is bad...

jno.......because 7 year olds don't NEED to know about sex
They do in a around about way,my son had sex when he was 12
With you on this Joeluke. Lets hope all the parents do the same or it`s going to be talked about in the playground.
i find it quite disturbing that some one would want 7 year olds to know about sex let alone want to teach them about it
Very naive, lets follow the scandinavians, they teach their children early, thats why they have a low birth rate...
My kids have known the basics about where babies come from since they were old enough to ask. I don't have a problem with them knowing age appropriate information - they are 10 and 9 now and we get questions from time to time, but we both answer them as honestly as we can. I want them to grow up to believe that there is nothing embarrassing or rude about sex.....and they still believe in Santa!
your son had sex at 12?
Scandinavia can be quite chilly, you wouldn't want to get your boaby oot behind the bike sheds for fear of frost bite
Found out when he was 26,i was totally shocked, get ure blinkers off as a parent
I kind of agree with you joe, I think 7 is too young.

Unwanted young pregnancies is definitely an issue but whoever heard of Primary School pregnancies?

That's why 11 years old is early enough for sex education
Hi steg, what worries me that you have a naive view like i did, when it comes to youre children
