The Bible

Many people on here quote passages from the Bible and hold it up as proof of what ever their argument is, others decry it as purely a work of fiction . My question is ,how many of them have read the book cover to cover, or is it just a case of believing what you want to believe?

I have only read the bits that I was told to read at school and have after many decades almost succeeded in erasing the memory. Ankou has a valid point re. the daily mail, you don't have to read every issue to confirm that it is still rubbish. When I start reading a novel and it quickly becomes apparent that it is craap then I bin it. The Bible on the other hand doesn't warrant having the first page read as it is obviously based on an immaculate misconception (amongst others) ( I somewhat resent the implications of the use of the word 'immaculate' by the church, does god have a monopoly on sexual hygiene?)

Its not the parts of the Bible that I dont understand that worry me, its the parts of the Bible that I do understand that worry me!

probably not many have read it cover to cover - its a very large, hardgoing book...but few also would say they dont know any of the stories...we all have a condensed and edited version of most of it...

Does it matter ? Quoting from a book of claimed divine inspiration will only impress the already converted, it 'holds no water' when trying to convince someone who has less respect for the book, and so is useless in a discussion.
