google map lines?

I see two pale blue lines on my google map, one horisontal, one vertical. When I click on the point where these lines intersect, the map zooms in and these lines are repositioned in a seemingly arbitrary way.

What are these lines on my map?

I can't see any purpose for their existence . . . other than to mystify me.

. . . wish i was there . . .
(...no clouds on this one but it's mostly the lines that get on my tit).
weird - my Google Earth doesn't look anything like that, quite apart from the lack of blue lines. What are the DGs?

You must have a more recent version than me.
How many layers!!

Turn all your layers off (that's what the lines are, and all the other junk!) and then turn them back on selectively...

The layers should be down in the bottom left pane.
Ah, ok (I'd never heard of "layers" in GE) thank ee :-)
Question Author
erm . . . nevermind.
that doesn't answer your question too, mibn?
further investigation (playing about with GE)

The diagonal yellow lines are spot image in the layer.

Vertical and horizontal lines are Digital globe coverage.

The clouds are under weather (shocking, eh?)

But turn 'em all off and then just put back what you really need.

(Apologies for the thread hijack mibn2)
...done it. I don't know how they'd all ended up checked.
Thanks.
