mobile phone text message scam from 88101

I have recently checked my phone bill and noticed a couple of £1.50 text message charges which I thought was strange as I make a rule as to never go over my allowance. And I'm very careful as to who I give my details to for these exact reasons!! I looked further into the matter and low and behold it was from a company who I believe to be called 'oxygen 8 communications' whos uses the short code 88101. I rang my service provider orange and they said to ring a number 08444480700 which i am reluctant to do as it cost 35p a min. It does give you the option to text stop to these messages to cancel but I dont want to incase it charges me even more.

Has anybody else experienced anything like this and how do you stop the messages?? Can my service provider bar the messages.??
They dont seem very helpful, and I'm afraid they are going to take even more money from me.

have you looked to see if they have a website if so contact them on there through e-mail and quote the data protection act i had a similar problem and dealt with it that way they soon stopped. be polite but firm

ok. I have deleted the messages I have recieved from them already, so will it work to text STOP to their number 88101 just randomly or do you have to respond to an actual text from them??

You will probably have inadvertently signed up to some sort of subscription service.
The STOP facility usually works but for peace of mind about avoiding further £1.50 charges why not ring the 0844 number.

Yes, been there. I hardly use my mobile so couldn't understand why £10 credit became £1 in a matter of weeks. They text you offering loads of texts for £1.50 a week and if you don't reply they charge you £1.50 per week. The only way I managed to get rid of them was letting my credit reduce to 0, so they couldn't collect. Then, and only then, did I get the STOP option.
