Im sure I had an email about 2 weeks ago, warning BT customers of a scam. At the same time I am dealing with BT about retaining my email address. I thought I had done that successfully. However a new email this morning has put doubt in my head - is it a scam or genuine? Should all genuine emails from BT use my name, rather than just Dear Customer?

I'd think it depends. Some general advertising may not warrant the fuss of individual addressing. But in any case, if in doubt don't respond directly to it. And click no links on it. I'm sure it wouldn't interest me whatever it contained. If it interests you, go to the BT website by typing the address yourself, and check out the details.
Just checked my emails from BT and they do NOT use my name. Most start with "Hello"
