Received a reminder from my car insurers about my upcoming renewal of the policy - to read they are charging me £36 renewal fee ? Never ever had this from any insurer before - is this right ?

Never heard of this Popple. Dump them and shop around.
It's new to me, also, and I've been driving for 52 years. Take janbee's advice.
Are you prepared to name and shame this Company, be it the Broker or the Insurer,as a warning to us all to steer clear of them .?

They would be looking for a new customer come renewal date, well out of order!

Don't understand why they would charge extra to keep a customer ? Most odd.
They sound like a small company (here it says they are family owned http://www.grove-dean.co.uk/?gclid=CLu1h5Oe3MECFVDItAod-yEAlw ) but they are brokers rather than an insurance company. Tell them to stick it, and go direct to the insurance company to renew. You don't need a broker.
We're both with esure and have just renewed our policies. We certainly weren't asked to pay a renewal fee. If we had been, we would have gone elsewhere.
Purple, contact them & state if the charge, you go they are taking the Izzzzzz. you have the money, they want he business.
Ask them on their FaceBook page. They won't like it but they'll have to answer
