I had a message purporting to be from microsoft telling me I had won an iphone7.
I had to answer 3 questions about microsoft, which I did and got them all correct.
It told me I had definitely won and asked for my address to deliver the prize .
There was then a 5 page long questionnaire offering me various things that I did not want. I was very careful to click No ,No Thanks or not applicable on each of them . At the end it said ''Thank you for completing the survey , we will let you know if you have won''
The first part told me I definitely HAD won. What chance do you think I have of actually getting the promised iphone? I will let you know if I do get it but I'm getting my hopes up.
Yes, I did then do a full malware scan which came up negative.

^ yep that's about what I think.

Sorry the 2nd from last line of my question was meant to say 'I am not getting my hopes up'
I wouldn't hold my breath Eddie.
Wow.
You actually did that?
I think I would have been dubious as Microsoft were offering and iPhone surely a legitimate competition it would be offering a non apple product.
Why on earth would Microsoft be giving away an iPhone (which is made by Apple) a competitor.

You know they old saying "if it seems to good to be true it probably is"

Do you really think anyone would give away a phone worth hundreds of pounds for doing a survey?

Note by filling out the "survey" you have just given away lots of your personal information.

I suggest you look up "gullible" in the dictionary:

adjective
easily persuaded to believe something; credulous.

I do not expect to get it, but as I took great care not to accept any of the offers and ran a full malware scan afterwards I do not think any damage has been done, I'm not gullible but I think it was worth a punt. Yes I know Microsoft do not make iphones, that was one reason I was suspicious.
"It told me I had definitely won and asked for my address to deliver the prize".
"I'm not gullible".
Hmm...

Gullible is as gullible does.

I understand and thank you for your concern, but with the precautions I took I do not see how there can be any come back apart from not getting the phone, which I was never to get expecting anyway. I even gave them a 'spare' email address which I very rarely use .
But, Eddie, you've presumably given them your real home address so they can deliver it?
Question Author
Yes, and I am well aware of the 'phone delivery scam' I'll not be taken in by that one .
Who said clickbait was dead?

So far all I have had is two phone calls. One for injury compensation and one for a mobile phone deal. Both turned down, but they must have got the number from the questionnaire even though I clicked no on all of them. Still I can live with a few unwanted phone calls if there is a chance however slim of a free iphone. I told the ambulance chaser that I would do my own claim if I ever did have an accident. I told the mobile phone caller that my son pays for my phone and the monthly bill so it costs me nothing which is true. They have both taken my number off their lists.
Eddie....I have had many calls from someone purporting to come from Microsoft, but they never, ever are.

This is scam, and I hope you didn't give away any details that might be used against you later.

The best solution is to either put the phone down immediately, of, if you have one handy, give the phone to a toddler for an hour of more !

I keep a referees whistle near my phone, and I sometimes give the man from Microsoft a quick blast down the phone !

There is absolutely no way that Microsoft would ever give away a phone made by their biggest competitor as a 'prize' relating to anything at all. Definitely a scam.
I think it's been firmly established that Eddie knows it's a scam, it's now become a game of sorts.
