Do I trust this message, supposedly from Norton Liveupdate? 'Error updating product; we could not shut down all drivers, as a result your Norton product is not running. Please restart your computer which will apply the patch'. I can minimise the message but not close it. Looked at my usual Norton screen, it was showing an update needed (one I knew about, so OK) and when I'd done that it showed 'No further updates required'. But the original message is still showing, and sooner or later I'll have to shut down the computer.
Thank you. I was feeling a bit nervous after almost falling for a bogus NHS/PCR test message last weekend. Re Norton, I've been wondering the same thing and won't be renewing next year. I just need to feel secure online and didn't know who else to trust.
The freebies from Avast, et al are all perfectly good. (They're exactly the same programs that they sell as well but just with some 'bells and whistles', that you don't really need anyway, thrown in).
I used Avast for many years, without any problems but these days I just leave everything to Windows Security, which does the same job anyway.
Norton is a complete and utter waste of space. It came pre-installed on one PC that I had and I could barely use the computer because every time I switched it on, Norton would start running, take ages, then scan everything before allowing me to use it. Get rid.
