Who believes in the phrase... the team were too good to go down.
This phrase is been bandied about after West Ham got relegated yesterday and numerous other occasions where a big club went down.
My personal view is the table doesnt lie, the only case in which you might be able to justify it is if the team got a points deduction due to say going into administration or some other financial irregularity where the performance on the field had no effect on where the team finished.
What are your views???

Shame about West Ham as they have had some great Players over the years and always strived to play good football. Teams who sell their best Players to'bigger'Clubs never seem to achieve much as West Ham often did.
I'm sure they will be back in the Prem before too long.

redman...I agree....West Ham as a club has been in a mess for a number of years and recently have made poor management appointments and even worse player acquisitions
However this is not just a recent phenomenon as, as long as I can remember, West Ham have played attractive foot ball and have won ...NOTHING and Arsenal seem to be following that trend.
It will be extremely difficult for the Hammers to get back into the Premiership as they will almost certainly lose Scott-Parker, Mathew Upton and Green.
I do not think that we will see West Ham as a force in football for a decade.

you could argue that, player for player, that group of players are better than Blackpool's or Wigan's but this season, under a few different guises, has shown how influential a good manager is. I'd have thought Avram Grant would have been good enough to keep that team up but obviously not. I do wonder what's happened to their youth players coming through too, they used to be superb!
