don't know if i'm on right page,but can anyone tell me if a company has the right to change a wage structure without telling anyone,and ultimately the new structure means a drop in wages.surely this can't be right....thanx in advance.

It would be a change in your contract terms and as such they would have to go through the proper consultation procedures before such a change could be made.

thanx everyone,its a bit more complicated,as it doesn't affect all employees.it's a bus company and it won't affect service bus drivers,only coach and contract drivers.contract drivers being mainly part time.it will affect most of these drivers to the tune of £20 to £30 pounds a week.we were bought out about 18months ago by trent barton buses,but left supposedly to our own devices..this is just the latest in a chain of cost cutting procedures by trent barton.

It certainly must give notice, the period being at least as long as the notice they would give for terminating the contract.
I'm sure there should be consultation- maybe the union (if there is one) has been consulted but hasn't told you.

If by 'contract driver' you mean someone who is not an employee, but someone who is either a casual driver or self-employed (and does other work for other bus companies), then the company can of course change the deal.
