can someone please tell me what happened to the rule, that stated, from any free kick or corner, the ball must have travelled at least it,s circumfrence before it is deemed in play.so even if pedderson thought it had been touched,it hadn't travelled its circumfrence,so therefore not in play.he cheated....SIMPLES.

He only cheated because the ref and linesmen did not notice so got away with it.

Sadly cheating (diving etc) it now part and parcel of them game.

(Mind you I can remember Francis Lee diving for Man City in the 1970s)
Pederson claimed that he thought Yakubu had played the ball before he dribbled it from the corner flag and it wasn't until they scored he told him he hadn't.
None of the officials saw it so unless Yakubu had admitted to the referee he hadn't played the ball there wasn't much anybody could do.
I was surprised none of the Wigan players said anything.
If you look at some of the Rovers fans behid the goal they are clearly laughing.
The ball only needs to move from a corner- it doesn't have to travel it's circumference.

I thought that if you were going to do one of those trick corners you were supposed to tell the ref/linesman- or maybe that is just good practice so they don't misunderstand it (as jhappened with a Giggs and Rooney move once)

I'm sure they must have rehearsed this and Youkoubu meant to touch the ball.
Gosh- did I put that apostrophe in "it's".
I wonder if the players told the ref/linesman they were going to do it but, knowing the ref wasn't watching, then deliberately didn't touch it first so that Wigan wouldn't be looking out for the trick corner.
On a similar Rule theme,What happened to the 6 second Goalkeeping rule where the ball had to be released?
I missed this.

Is there a YouTube link, or anything ?

Description:
Aah,thanks,f30.

That works ... although I didn't really understand the issue.
Basically Pederson took the corner but instead of crossin/passing it he simply dribbled teh ball staright from the corner into the penalty box. Presumably he thought Yakubu had already touched the ball
Ah, right.

So do you have to pass the ball from a corner?

Can't you do a banana shot, straight into the net ???
Yes- you can score direct from a corner- it happens most seasons (someone once scored 3 in a game!) but the taker can only touch it once before it goes in or another player touches it
Okay, got it.

Thank you for being patient.

JJ- here's a much better view of it from different angles

the simple fact here is that the guy who took the corner played it twice without and intervening touch. The first player didn't touch it at all.
. . . and look at both Pederson asnd Yakubu as then run alongside each other at the end of factor's clip. The two players knew they had cheated.
