Only West Brom have stayed up when bottom at Christmas.

Are Blackburn going to join that exclusive club?

In the Premiership maybe, but in the days when top-flight football was simply called Division 1 of the Football league, a team which was bottom of the table at Christmas went on to become League Champions by the end of the same season. (Ipswich, 1961/62).

(Can you guess where I come from?)

Blimey! Times have changed a bit.
We were actually bottom at half time on the last day of the season and survived.
That is even more incredible..The Great Escape.

What a day :-)

I remember that day, Mighty.

I'm still out of breath.

I think I am right that a certain Harry Redknapp was relegated instead.
No, he'd (Rednapp) done a runner by then.
Question Author
He was manager of Southampton, and went down with them Penelope.

The team that West Brom beat to stay up was Portsmouth, and their fans didn't mind as it sent 'The Filth' down.
Hi Hopkirk, what year we talking about here. Rednapp left Pompey, went to Southampton (The Scummers) then returned to Pompey. Then it's all history re how he deserted Pompey.
