Get Married Abroad.....where to start???
Hello all,
Finally, me and my fiance of 6 years have the ball rolling to plan our wedding, however we wanted to get married abroad and wondered if anyone had also done this, and how much it cost? Is it always best to hire a wedding planner, and has anyone used any that they would recommend. We have had a few suggestions of Mexico, Turkey and Cyprus, I love Turkey and been to quite a few places out there, Mexico I have never been to and although it looks lovely someone did mention that you have to get married here in the uk first and then go out there for the ceremony??? I don't really fancy that to be honest. I'd rather do it all properly, on a beach with close friends and family witnessing.
Cyprus I have never been to and it seems quite popular with weddings so I am heading towards that, unless someone can change my mind :). Please if you have got married abroad, wherever it may be, whether you used a wedding planner, or if you was clever enough to arrange everything yourself and managed to do it all cheaper, please post below and share it with me...any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou
Loza

Hi Loza,
We got married in Cyprus 3 years ago. We got married in a large hotel so they had their own wedding planner who helped us with everything, and we arranged the whole wedding via email!!
It definitely ended up cheaper than a wedding here. It was a five star hotel with 35 people and we spent under £7000 and it was possible to do it cheaper than that...

If you tried to do it yourself I think you would be overwhelmed by the options, not knowing which were reputable companies, and trying to co-ordinate the whole lot. It would end up being a very stressful full time job I think! If you want to get married in the Town Hall then have a reception somewhere else, there are lots of independent wedding planners who can help you do that too.
The beauty of a Cyprus wedding is that the minimum residency period is only three days, you can get married in any hotel on the island as well as the town halls, and its fully legal over here so no need to visit a register office as well.
We found the weddings abroad forum on You and Your Wedding website to be absolutely invaluable so you might want to head over there.
Any questions, let me know

Thankyou Bushbaby, your info is very valuable to us, and I will definitely check out that site you have posted. Sorry I have only just replied, for some reason I didn't get notified of responses!
I think we are going to get married in Cyprus, just need to hire a wedding planner now! Can I ask, when you said you arranged your wedding all by email, who was this with?
Thanks
Lauren
