Roy did well winning the group and taking the Italians to penalties but I can't help feeling if Harry was in charge he would've made the team play more attacking football with the players he had.
it was all a bit odd,so many good players but they spent their time defending! they do seem to have cohesion though,so maybe when the old guard and newbies get a chance to gel more, stuff might happen
Certainly a bit of attack was what was lacking. The number of times Joe Hart booted the ball right back up the field, straight to an Italian as there weren't any English guys around to take it.
In hindsite it would have been far better if the English coaches encoraged flair instead of effort over the last 30 years. Where was our Pirlo and when are we likely to get one.
The only reason that we didn't get our %£$&$ handed to us on a plate is Italian strikers are as inpet as English ones.

Curiously, this has also been the strategy of the England rugby team lately, and it's attracted a lot of criticism. Better teams (particularly France, Australia and New Zealand) are much more adept at passing.
the core of a really good side there...once the last of the old guard have suitable replacements Roy has a chance of building a team that might be capable of progressing... not many to replace either,,, Terry, Gerrard and Scott Parker have all been excellent but are unlikely to figure in the world cup plans Ashley cole has at least one more tournament maybe two... I don't think 'arry would have done better
I had to agree Mark Lawrensen last night, and it nearly chokes me to say that. The commentator asked why England were persistently hitting long balls so early in and Lawro replied "It's in the DNA".
We need an entire change in the way we play the game in the UK, both culturally and tactically.
