Arsenal, battling for fourth place in the table, are 1 - 0 up to the F.A. Cup winners. Lukas Podolski with a close range header after 11 minutes. Wigan need to win if they stand any chance of staying up. They've only had a few attacks and have spent most of the 23 minutes defending.
Brian Kidd's sky blue Manchester City are at The Madejski Stadium and it's goalless. David Platt has also handed in his notice and left the club this afternoon.

Own up. Who has lit the blue touchpaper? The first five minutes of the second half have been end-to-end. Martin Tyler said he'd been talking to some Arsenal fans (On the way back to his commentary position) and he said thay'd rather lose to Wigan because Sunderland play Spurs (On Sunday), and they'll try harder to win at WHL, while Arsenal are at St. James' Park.

It certainly used to be the case that the F.A. Cup Final wasn't played until after the end of the season, but I think this the second time that the Final has been played while the season is ongoing.
This is a belting game for the neutrals (The last few midweek games have been, compared to the "Super Sunday" offerings).
Oh dear. After Theo Walcott beat Joel to the cross to make it 2 - 1, Podolski has just nipped in to make it 3 - 1. Still, there's 20 minutes to go and Wigan don't look out of it just yet.....

I think that's a case of people with limited brain power having too much time to analyse a problem :-)
The FA Cup final has been mucked about with because of the Champions League Final being played at Wembley. It means it has to be brought forward a couple of weeks. Plainly the FA care more about the Champions League and pay mere lip service to the FA Cup being "special"
