Pension Justice For Troops
5 Answers
This week the Government announced the latest round of armed forces redundancies: 1,500 people will lose their jobs. As yet we have no idea how many will be compulsory, but reports indicate there will be more than previous rounds.
This means our campaign to secure pension justice for troops is even more urgent than before.
Just before Christmas hundreds of you wrote to your MP and asked them to call on the Treasury Select Committee to hold an inquiry into this issue. We received commitments from a number of MPs to do just that including: Paul Flynn, Ian Murray, Martin Horwood, Simon Burns, Mike Weir, Mark Lazarowicz, Ian Wright, Sarah Champion, Gordon Brown, Graeme Morrice and Sammy Wilson.
In the coming weeks we'll be calling on the Treasury Select Committee to respond to these calls and our petition. We need as many people as possible to sign the petition before then.
Please forward the email below to friends or family asking them to sign, by doing this you will be helping to protect the pensions of the people who protect us.
Thank you,
Jayne
Pension Justice for Troops
Hi,
I'm supporting the campaign to get pension justice for troops.
In the haste to restructure the army, a small group of long-serving, loyal service personnel have been made compulsorily redundant within a whisker of achieving their military pensions and are not being fairly compensated for its loss. The military pension is the key financial promise on which service personnel are recruited, retained and promoted and allows service personnel transition with dignity to civilian life.
A group of former soldiers affected by this issue have started a petition calling on the Prime Minister to uphold the Military Covenant, and ensure the pensions of all service personnel made compulsorily redundant just short of receiving their military pension are restored.
Please join me and sign the petition here: www.change.org/pensionjusticefortroops
