My best mate has just been diagnosed with a terminal illness. He's drawn up a bucket list & he's looked into going to see Tosca @ the Royal opera house. The cheapest seats are...£165-00!!! £62-00 doesn't look too bad to me.
I afford my season ticket by working additional hours, also referee football matches, and don't buy anything beyond a hot chocolate and a programme at the ground.
Am not someone that smokes or drinks alcohol, so don't have to bear additional costs in that way.

campbellking may i ask how much is the programme and which team do you watch
Afraid I am a season ticket holder at Chelsea (one of the cheaper ones, and we're not as expensive as Arsenal or Tottenham). Programme is £3, hot chocolate is £2.20 (and shrinking every year...)
Aw, campbellking. I thought you would be a Bedford Town supporter.
My older brother (50 tomorrow) goes there a fair bit (I have been a couple of times). Have run the line there a few times on women's games.
I was down by the river last Sunday. Loads of rowers around.
Sunday before Easter was the Head of the river race (a big time trial event). went for a run this morning about 7 a.m by the river, and our junior boys were out training, looked a perfect morning for a row.
When I say last Sunday, I mean the one before the most recent Sunday. The Sunday before easter Sunday. There were rowers everywhere and loads of people watching.

Next up is Bedford regatta on the 10th May (150th one). Will be out there with the megaphone trying to marshall (not so much the rowers as the grumpy old umpires)
Lost the plot?
Question Author
as fast -)
Never had the plot. Do remember the 'good old days' at Chelsea in the 80s when we weren't very good and I used to pay £3 to go and stand on the terraces and watch players of the quality of Doug Rougvie...
Question Author
show my age, peter bonetti, bobby tambling and peter osgood -)
Peter Osgood now has a statue outside the ground (not the world's best likeness), Bobby Tambling has had a lot of health issues over the last few years, but has looked better on his 'appearance round the pitch' this year. Peter Bonetti never seems to change, and always looks very hale and hearty (must be from his years as a postman after he retired).
