Changing The Year Of The World Cup

Wouldn't it be a good idea to change the football cups (world and European) to odd years. That way we get (for example)
2016 Olympics
2017 World Cup
2018 Commonwealth games
2019 Euros

If only any one would listen to me

Great idea and we could all enjoy these sporting events without having to wait years in advance but then no one listens to sensible suggestions!!

Or, for the non-sports lovers, have them all in the same year, get them out of the way and have three years without the sport interrupting things.

They would still only be every four years though (!) Or am I missing the point. And don't forget there are other events to be taken into consideration, such as the World Athletics Champs (every two years) African Cup of Nations (also every two years) Asian Games, etc etc etc

They don't clash in any way (apart from the pointless Olympic football and top footballers shouldn't be taking part in that anyway) so why bother changing?

You seem to have totally ignored the other parts of the world who have their events and only seem concerned with Europe and the Commonwealth countries.

As has been pointed out, there are other competitions (not just soccer) for South America, Africa, and Asia, or don't they count.

Bit narrow minded of you to think about only about Europe.

We'll the Olympics is worldwide as is World Cup so that's two years sorted
Is it too much to ask that the African cup is changed to 2019 so as not to clash with World Cup but to compliment the Euro - no clash there
The only year then to be a problem will be 2018 but I cannot think of anything similar

No it wouldn't, primarily because every other sport has already planned its calendar for years into the future, based on when the Olympics and World Cups are. There's such a fight for TV audiences these days that the broadcasters wouldn't want any chance of a clash.

And I'd hate your 2019 Euros to interfere with my 2019 Rugby World Cup.
