Good Food Show

Daughter and I went yesterday. We usually go on the Sunday because they have the world cheese competition. Afterwards they sell off a lot of the cheeses. You buy a carrier bag for £10 and you can fill it with as many cheeses as you want.
But, they didn't do it this year. They muttered health and safety. When I asked what would happen to the cheeses we were told they would all be destroyed.
There was approximately 2800 different cheeses. What an absolute disgrace.
Surely if they didn't want to sell them a charity or homeless shelter would have been glad of them.
We had a good time though, got some good bargains with it being the last day.
One stall was selling quails, pheasants, wild mallards and other kinds of birds. They were £4.99 each or 4 for £10!
Daughter and I had two each. I got a large mallard and a large pheasant.
Coming home the motorway was chockablock of we came home cross country so late getting home. Shattered but a good day.

She did her thing and it all looked wonderful but sadly, we were not allowed to taste any of it. It all went in the bin. H & S eejits ruled the roost ! What a waste. Plenty homeless hungry people around , but alas, H & S said no and it all got chucked out.
My friend and I went to the GFS on Friday - we got there early so it wasn't too crowded at first, but when we came out of the Mary and Paul show it was absolutely rammed. They got two members of the audience up on the stage to taste the chicken dish which Mary had made and the chocolate roulade which Paul had made - no winges about elf and safety with that! (and the choc roulade is another story!). And a bit later we saw Jo Wheatley make a panettone christmas pudding and some raspberry friands - at the end, some of the audience (including my friend and myself) asked if we could taste one of the friands - but of course they said no, quoting the H & S thing. Yet as mentioned above it was okay for the two people in the audience at Paul & Mary's show to taste their dishes. Seems very strange to me! Would have loved some of those game birds - didn't see them at all. Did see the cheese stall, and despite the fact they said they were doing Black Friday bargains, the cheese didn't seem that discounted to me!
What we were cross about was that there was a guy selling a "brilliant" mandoline/grater gadget and he said that it normally retailed at £60 and because it was black friday, he could let us have one of these things (plus a few blades and a hand-guard) for £30.00. And when I got it home, I happened to see on the packaging box that the RRP was 29.99 euros! Trading Standards breach or what? Anyway, I contacted our local Trading Standards people and they suggested that I should write to the company pointing this out .... which I have done - so I await their response. Feel totally diddled - and cross with myself for having been taken in by the salesman's patter!
