She'll be 11 ( I think )later this year, and she is suddenly really slowing down. She appears to be stiff when she gets off the sofa. A distance that took 15 minutes to walk a few months ago, now takes 30+ minutes. That's if she even wants to bother. It looks like I need to reign in my desire for a brisk walk, and just let her mosey along. She also seems to daydream...stopping and staring off into the distance, taking little notice of me encouraging her along.

Pasta, my dog is 11 years old? Get the vet to check her for arthritis .
Question Author
I intend to do that. In the meantime, I've started her on glucosamine. It seems to have helped a bit, but it's only been a short time.
Poor thing. Arthritis is so easily treated , good luck .
Have you tried Sardines or Mackrel in oil pasta? Add a fillet and some oil to her food
Dogs di get dementia and there are medicines which help. Activait is non prescription, Selgian and Vivitonin are on presciption. Pain relief can help too.
All the same age related problems of any human I'm afraid, little and often is the way to go with everything, plus a help in hand with medication of whatever when things get to difficult.

I've tried sardines...shes not a fan.
I've seen Activait on Amazon...I think I first read about it on here. I have considered trying it.
She doesn't seem to be in pain, but is totally unwilling to do any sort of walking in the morning. Evening, she needs coaxing.

Too true, teacake.
I need to remind myself of how my joints feel first thing...and when I unglue myself from a comfortable chair.
Get her some Green Lipped muscle capsules (they're made especially for dogs). Workked wonders for my 15 yo Border Collie. If that doesn't work, take her to the vets and get her on Metacam. Marvellous stuff.
Question Author
Someone else recommended green lipped mussels. I'll have a Google.
My local pet shop gave me a generous free sample of something called "ProJoint 4 Dogs"...looking at it, it contains green lipped mussel along with glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, Curcumin, etc. I've also got some tablets.
Also try a heat mat xx
Question Author
Oh goodness! Why haven't I thought of that? I use a heating pad for myself.

I am sure that pasta is not 'fannying around' and that she will take her precious dog to the vet - she is just asking what others use!

Brianna...RR was offering advice. I'll ask you to please not tell anyone to mind their own business. Particularly when she said what I would have.
