Alan Minter (69) Loses His Fight Against Cancer.

Nice guys never win. If that's true, Alan Minter was the exception to the rule. Having won a Bronze medal in the 1972 Olympics - many said he was robbed of a place in the final in the semis when his German opponent was given a 'home' decision? - Alan Minter turned pro later that year and won his first 11 fights. Despite a tendency to 'cut' easily, he became the undisputed Middleweight Champion of the World in March 1980 in controversial fashion after the British ref gave him 13 of the 15 rounds. However, there was no controversy in the rematch with Minter stopping his opponent in the 8th. He lost his title to Marvellous Marvin Hagler who cut Minter's face to shreds with his power and speed. Despite retiring at just 29, Alan Minter remains a legend of British boxing. RIP Alan.
