I got a phone call from my doctor about my latest round of blood tests at the end of last week and she got me an appointment with the Renal Consultant yesterday.

According to the blood tests I have Stage 3b chronic kidney disease, She said that Chronic interstitial nephritis is the probable diagnosis. I am still not taking Lithium, my daily dosage of Metformin has been reduced and the dose of Ramipril has been halved.

I have actually managed to control my drinking problem a little. I am down from 1.5 litres of Pepsi Max per day to 500ml. I am still drinking 7-up light by the gallon but I intend to stop this once my stock of cans is finished.

Thanks for all the help that all of you have given. I have been in a good mood for almost a week now - I was concerned that if I stopped taking the Lithium I would be back on the roller-coaster life that blighted my working years. The upside of the mood swings is that I managed to 'retire' at the age of 40 will a Civil Service pension.

I am now torn between finishing working on a bundle of Postcards that is to be sold for Oxfam or playing games on my Kindle. Being a grown-up is so difficult.

:-)

It's good news that they seem to have worked out what's wrong with you anyway, Susan. Let's hope that it will enable you to enjoy life more fully in the future. If you need any info/advice about your condition, this might be a good place to start: https://www.kidney.org.uk/

I can understand the compulsion to keep drinking fluids when you've got kidney problems. When I went for 11 days without being able to pee (before being rushed into hospital with kidneys having the lowest level of function short of actual total failure), I was drinking water by the gallon - which probably wasn't such a good idea when there was nowhere for it to go!

Postcards or Kindle games? Now that must be a really hard decision to make. (If you opt for the postcards though, other AB members will be able to join in when you tell us about the obscure text and images that you're trying to classify!)

Whatever it is you choose, I hope that you enjoy your evening.
What can I say but well done! Spend your evening doing what makes you happiest.
At least you got an answer to your problem.
Glad you didn't have any troubling side effects from coming off Lithium.
Keep working on reducing the drinks and hopefully you'll be better still. :-)
Here's to many more happy days wolf! xx

I am off to bed with my Kindle.

The postcards are mainly old ones from England, I have spent the afternoon trying to put them into counties. There are a lot of counties.

I will probably be back in a couple of hours :-)
Chronic interstitial nephritis ... the best diseases are the unpronounceable ones, I always say.
Well done Susan. Your hard work has paid of :-)
Bottom line with your health situation.

Look after your diabetes.
Look after your B.P
Then your CKD will almost certainly look after itself.
What a lovely post, I wish you all the best for your future
I wish you well,, wolf.
